We had to share these words from Ashley Shepherd, Quality Assurance Manager at Johnstons of Elgin. Her story shows that hard work and trusting your intuition, is the path to success.
"I was asked by Developing Young People Moray to write a piece about my career for Inspirational Woman’s day a few weeks ago and up until that point I hadn’t ever reflected on my career.
9 years ago I decided to move to Glasgow to study Fashion Manufacturing, it was scary enough without the people around me mimicking the thoughts in my own head “there’s no jobs in the UK for that”, “it’s too competitive”, “you will never work in Scotland”, “that’s not a real career”. They thought they were helping, they were looking out for me and wanted me to make good choices. But I knew what was right for me. Through alot of hard work and dedication I have worked in our incredible industry since graduating, always working harder, always trying to be better than I was before and I have been lucky enough to end up working for Johnstons of Elgin, a company I am so proud to work for alongside our talented craftsmen and craftswomen. And on top of that I found out this week I have successfully gained my black belt accreditation fromThe Institute of Six Sigma Professionals after telling myself my entire life “I’m not a numbers person”.
Moral of my story so far - Work hard, keep working hard and follow your gut. If you think you can do it, you can and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise."
